The key domestic share indices ended higher today amid positive global sentiments. The BSE sensex closed near 71,500 mark while the NSE Nifty settled above 21,450 level.
The Sensex rose 122 points to end at 71,437 and the Nifty added 34 points to finish at 21,453.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-cap index fell 0.31 percent while the Small-cap index added 0.10 percent.
In the Sensex index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 15 companies appreciated while 15 companies declined. Nestle India climbed 4.7 percent and NTPC gained 2.2 percent. Reliance rose one and a half percent and SBI added one percent.
On the other hand, Wipro declined 1.4 percent and TCS lost 1.2 percent. HCL Tech fell 1.1 percent and Tata Steel slipped 0.9 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, nine sectors gained while 11 declined. Energy sector climbed one and a half percent and FMCG gained 1.2 percent. Utilities sectors rose 0.8 percent and Consumer Durable added 0.4 percent.
On the other side, IT and Tech, both sectors declined 0.8 percent each. Auto index fell 0.7 percent.
The overall market breadth was negative, as the shares of 1,828 companies appreciated while those of 1,940 declined. A total of 136 companies remained unchanged.
